Unlock Your Maruti Alto’s Hidden Data: Choosing the Right OBD Scanner

For years, like many car enthusiasts, I relied on a basic ELM327 OBD2 Bluetooth adapter to peek under the hood of my car’s performance using apps like Torque. It was a decent entry point, but I yearned for more in-depth data from my car’s Engine Control Unit (ECU), something the ELM327 combo couldn’t fully deliver, especially for my Maruti Alto. My goal was simple: understand my car’s behavior during daily drives by recording and analyzing various parameters at home.

Through a recommendation from a fellow enthusiast, devrajman, I discovered a more advanced OBD scanner that promised to bridge this gap. He had been using it for a while and suggested I explore its capabilities. Intrigued, I decided to purchase it. The website indicated it was primarily for the US market, so I enlisted the help of a friend visiting California to buy and bring it back to India for me. Luckily, he managed to get it, and the package arrived just yesterday! I’m still unsure of the exact purchase location in California, but the important thing is, I finally have it.

Cost of the unit: $US 50 (Approx Rs 3200)

Upon unboxing, the first step was downloading the companion software, “EasyDiag,” from the Google Play Store – thankfully, it’s free. Registration was straightforward, requiring user details and OBD connector registration using the provided Serial Number and password found in the package.

The standout feature? This scanner comes with two free manufacturer software options! After the initial two, additional manufacturer software licenses are available for around $US 30-35 each.

Considering my household and network are deeply rooted in Maruti vehicles, choosing the manufacturer software was a no-brainer.

  1. Maruti
  2. Hyundai

This choice makes this scanner incredibly useful for anyone in my circle owning a Maruti Suzuki or Hyundai vehicle. If you’re a Maruti or Hyundai owner facing car troubles, reach out! I’m now equipped to help diagnose issues and potentially save you a trip to the service center.
