There are times when you need to reset your Canon IP2770 printer, especially when you encounter errors. You can perform a reset yourself or take it to a printer service center.
Canon provides guidelines and a tool, often called the Canon IP2770 resetter or service tool, for performing resets. However, not everyone is familiar with how to use this application.
If you are curious and want to try resetting your Canon IP2770 yourself, you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, we will provide a comprehensive step-by-step tutorial on how to reset your Canon IP2770 printer, complete with supporting images.
Manual Resetting of Your Canon IP2770 Printer
To reset your Canon IP2770 printer, you need to follow several steps in order. This ensures that no steps are missed, which could lead to a failed reset process.
This method has been successfully used to resolve the Canon IP2770 error 5B00 and has proven to be effective. Here are the steps you need to take:
Download the Resetter
The Service Tool software is commonly used as a resetter for the Canon IP2770. This application is quite effective in resetting and resolving issues for various printers, including the one mentioned earlier.
Please download the application below:
Both versions of the Service Tool are essentially the same. The only difference lies in the application’s interface. Download both applications, as further information will be provided later.
Entering Service Mode
Before proceeding with the Canon IP2770 printer reset, you must first enter service mode. This is a mandatory step; otherwise, the reset process will not succeed.
Here’s how to enter service mode on a Canon IP2770:
- First, turn off the printer completely.
- Once it’s off, press and hold the Resume button for two seconds, then press and hold the Power button (keep holding both until the indicator light turns green).
- When the indicator light turns green, release the Resume button but continue holding the Power button.
- Press the Resume button 5 times (press and release quickly five times).
- After pressing the Resume button five times, release both buttons simultaneously. The indicator light will blink and then turn solid green.
- Service mode is now active.
After entering service mode, your computer or laptop will detect the Canon IP2770 as a new device. This is normal, so proceed to the next step.
Load Paper into the Printer
It is important to ensure that the printer has paper loaded. This paper will be used for printing a test page to verify if the reset process was successful.
You don’t need to load a lot of paper; a few sheets will suffice. Ideally, have at least two sheets of paper in the printer.
Resetting the Printer
Now, we move on to the core process: resetting the Canon IP2770 using the resetter application or Service Tool. Since you have downloaded two versions of the Service Tool, we will provide instructions for each version.
Note: Some laptops may work directly with Service Tool v1074 without issues. However, others might experience a “not responding” error with v1074 and need to use Service Tool v3400.
Service Tool v1074
-
Extract the Service Tool v1074 file on your computer.
-
Open the application by double-clicking on it.
-
In the Service Tool application, click Main under the Clear Ink Counter section and wait for the process to complete. Once done, the printer will print a page with the text D=000*0.
-
In the Operation section, click EEPROM Clear. If successful, a message “A function was finished” will appear. Click OK.
-
Finally, click EEPROM > when a new window appears, leave the default settings > click OK, and wait for the printer to print automatically.
-
On the printed page, you will see a lot of text. The most important part is the line TPAGE(TTL=00000). Sometimes, the TTL number may differ, which is not a problem.
-
The reset process is complete for Service Tool v1074.
Service Tool v3400
-
Extract the Service Tool v3400 file that you downloaded.
-
Once extracted, run the application by double-clicking on it.
-
In the first step, change Absorber under Clear Ink Counter to Main, then click Set. Wait briefly, and the printer will print a page with the text D=000*0.
-
In the Ink Absorber Counter section, do the same by changing Absorber to Main, then click Set. If successful, a message “A function was finished” will appear. Click OK.
-
Next, click EEPROM > if a new window pops up, leave the default settings (Paper = RearTray) > click OK, and wait for the printer to print automatically.
-
On the printed paper, you will see a lot of text. The most important part is the line TPAGE(TTL=00000). Again, the TTL number might be different, and that’s okay.
-
The reset process is complete for Service Tool v3400.
With two sets of instructions, you are free to use either method. The key point is to successfully complete steps 1-7; it doesn’t matter whether you use version 1074 or 3400.
